001 britannia power skimped on sector 12 heat again (rant) RustyFork 4 2 hrs ago
day 3 with barely lukewarm water in sector 12. classic britannia move, probably diverting it all to keep the exec floors toasty while we do the coat-and-blanket combo down here
not surprised. my cousin works logistics for crownward and says the corp floors get the good stuff always. guess some things about the old world we really did keep
at least crownward has to build things to earn it. britannia just flips a switch and calls it labor
filed a complaint. it went into the same void as my lift ticket from thread 003, probably
pro tip: layer up before shift, the thermal core techs will just tell you "core's stable, stop asking"
002 anyone else's peacekeeper patrol linger a little too long by the lift last night? GrimButDecent 6 5 hrs ago
walking home from shift, pair of peacekeepers just stood by the sector 9 lift not moving for like ten minutes. didn't say anything. didn't need to
yeah, sector 4 got the curfew extension notice too. don't make eye contact, don't ask questions, works every time
my dad used to say you can tell when the implant's active by the eyes. thought he was exaggerating until i actually looked. did not enjoy that
genuinely feel bad for whoever's under that visor. crownward pays their techs better than the union pays the corps, that much i know
reminder: nobody in this thread said anything critical about the union. we are simply discussing lighting conditions near the lift
correct. beautiful lighting. very atmospheric. anyway stay inside tonight
003 sector 12 lift STILL broken (rant) GrimButDecent 6 12 hrs ago
day 9 of the sector 12 lift being "under maintenance." i have climbed more stairs this month than in the entire old world combined
honestly it's free cardio. embrace the stairs. become the stairs
i do not want to become the stairs, i want to press a button and arrive at a different floor like a civilized pre-storm person
filed a ticket with crownward three weeks ago. status still reads "acknowledged." acknowledged by who. acknowledged when.
status: acknowledged is bbs-speak for "a machine read your ticket and felt nothing"
bring back the guy who used to fix things with a wrench and mild swearing. simpler times, before crownward centralized maintenance
004 trivia night this week: guess the pre-storm decade + new hive history round QuizBot_Sam 4 1 day ago
categories tuesday: pre-storm pop culture, guess the decade, and a new one — early hive history. bring snacks if you've got any left
hive history round is going to be brutal, nobody remembers anything before their block was already built
my grandmother still won't talk about the early undercity quota lottery, so that round might hit different for some of us. keep it light please
noted — keeping it to fun facts, nothing about the quotas. sorry for even bringing it up, deb
005 does anyone actually know why sector 9 used to be a train platform HiveMum_Deb 4 1 day ago
my building's got old tile work near the vents. apparently sector 9 used to be an actual train platform before undercity dug us out properly. anyone know more?
my grandfather helped build the early tunnels. said half the original crew were people who didn't make the surface quota and figured digging was better odds than waiting outside
that's dark but also kind of on brand for this hive
makes me appreciate the lift being broken a little less, honestly. at least we HAVE a sector 9
006 dreadnought caravan hit sector 4 today, krona prices are insane Cassie_M 5 2 days ago
caravan rolled in off the warsaw route this morning, traders set up at the sector 4 blockpost. asking 40 krona for a working multitool. FORTY.
traders always jack up prices right after a curfew, they know we're all stir crazy for anything from outside
one of the pilgrims traveling with them said paris still hasn't budged an inch against the union. man's been walking for weeks and that's the whole update
paris will outlast all of us out of pure spite at this point. gotta respect it
also heard secondhand that moscow's still deadlocked between the shields and the union-friendly side. some things really don't change city to city
007 vantage armaments hiring again — anyone done a shift there?NEW RustyFork 4 3 hrs ago
saw a posting for dreadnought platform techs, decent krona but the shift lengths look brutal. anyone worked there before?
did three months on a platform crew. pay's good, but you're basically living next to gun turrets all day, noise never stops
at least it's steady work. beats waiting on a crownward maintenance contract that never comes (see: thread 003)
my nephew applied. said the interview was mostly them checking if he'd flinch near live ordnance
008 berlin trade envoy passing through next week, apparentlyNEW HiveMum_Deb 4 6 hrs ago
heard from a blockpost worker that a berlin envoy is coming through on the next caravan. first contact in ages, apparently
didn't berlin basically go quiet after the storm? thought they were assumed gone
"assumed gone" is doing a lot of work in that sentence. love that for us
adding "guess which city sent the envoy" to trivia night. you're welcome
009 sector 9 water tasted weird after the pump swap, techs please respondNEW GrimButDecent 5 9 hrs ago
did something change with the sector 9 water line? tastes metallic since the pump swap yesterday
same here, thought it was just me
filed a ticket, they said it's "within normal mineral tolerance," which is not the reassurance they think it is
"normal mineral tolerance" is what my grandad used to call it right before the pipe actually burst, just saying
please nobody tell britannia power we're worried, they'll just raise the water tariff to fix our feelings about it
010 does anyone remember when civilians could use the orbital lift terminalsNEW RustyFork 5 14 hrs ago
my grandmother keeps talking about riding an orbital lift as a kid, before the storm. genuinely sounds made up at this point
not made up, my family has an old photo from a lift platform. wild to think that stuff existed before all of this
explains why they were so desperate for the rare metals though. imagine building all that and then losing it in one bad winter
"one bad winter" is generous, it's been like two hundred years
adding "orbital lifts: real or grandparents lying" to trivia night as well. this list is getting long
